Holiday in Menorca

We've just returned from a lovely holiday on the Spanish island of Menorca with our younger son, Ben, his wife Claire, and their children Thomas and Sophie. We stayed in the seaside resort of Calan Bosch and did all the usual things that families do on holiday - swimming in the hotel pool and in the sea, firing water pistols at each other, playing crazy-golf and air hockey, firing rubber balls at each other with cannons and watching the hotel entertainment, including a parrot show. We hired a bicycle made for six people and cycled round the town. Thomas's favourite activity was pretending he was a Formula 1 driver on the small car circuit and Sophie particularly enjoyed the nightly disco for small children. A great time was had by all.

Summer Picnic!

Today should have been the Summer Picnic of the Wincanton Choral Society held annually for the last four years in a member's beautiful garden near Castle Cary in Somerset. But the heavens poured, both rain and hailstones, and we had to have our picnic inside the house. Afterwards the sky cleared and those who wanted could ride on the 5 inch gauge railway which runs all the way round the garden. The photo shows Jenny enjoying her turn as engine driver crossing the bridge over the garden pond - she did not know there was a small boy sat behind her until he shouted with excitement as they went round a sharp bend. Great fun - for children of all ages!
